Congratulations to the top spellers in our spelling bee! Fourth grader Nayana Vardhana correctly spelled Darwinism to win the bee.

Fifth grader Anna Zmaj was second, and fourth grader Chandler Eichelberger was third. This is the second year in a row the bee was won by a fourth grader.

There were 51 fifth and fourth graders who bravely entered the bee. Spellers were faced with several difficult words such as pulverized, drudgery, swankiest, reflexology and Sudoku. Mrs. Watts called out the words from a script provided by the Scripps Spelling Bee, and judges were Mrs. Reasor, Miss Oakes, and Mrs. Blanton.

The winners move on to compete in the zone bee, which will be held at Bright in February.
