What you need to know this week ...

Charleston Wrap Fundraiser Happening Now!

Only NINE DAYS LEFT to reach our goal!
 
We are counting on friends, family and far-flung friends and family to help us get there. We are looking forward to Chick-fil-A for the whole school AND a special guest if we raise $50,000. Remember -- all proceeds are designated for the Bright School Security Endowment -- protecting current and future generations of Bright students. 
 
The top three sellers will receive one of three prizes: a $250 Visa gift card, $250 to spend at a private shopping experience at Learning Express, or the opportunity to create your own gelato flavor at Milk and Honey that they will bring for you to share with your classmates!
 
Follow these steps to get register and sell!

2. Share a link to the sale with friends and family. 
3. Shop! There are over 2,500 items so there is something for everyone!

Family Breakfast and Bright T-shirt Day this Friday

Families are invited to have breakfast with their students in the dining hall this Friday, October 13, beginning at 7 a.m. The cost of breakfast is $5 per person. Chef Michael will be serving scrambled eggs with jalapenos, tomatoes and onions (for Hispanic Heritage month), plain scrambled eggs, bacon, hash browns, and biscuits with gravy. There will also be a French toast sticks station.
 
The Bookstore will be open from 7:30 - 8:30 a.m. We have some new merchandise including new hoodies and sweatshirt blankets!
 
Students may also wear their Bright School t-shirts to school that day. 

Middle School Heads Panel

Parents of third-fifth graders are invited to learn more about how to prepare for middle school. The heads of the middle schools at Baylor, GPS and McCallie will offer valuable insights into the life of middle schoolers and their parents on Tuesday, October 17, at 5:30 p.m. in the Centennial Theater. 
 

Halloween Costumes and Parade on October 31

Students may wear Halloween costumes to school on Tuesday, October 31. There will be an all-school Halloween parade at 8:30 a.m. on the track. This is an event for students and teachers, but parents are welcome to attend. There will be coffee on the concourse for parents who want to park after drop off and socialize before the parade. Parents are not required to attend. For costumes, please make sure your child's outfit is easy to wear all day and remove for bathroom trips and comfortable for inside and outdoors. No toy weapons should be included with costumes. Tennis shoes for P.E. must be worn, and masks should not cover the face. This will be a fun day, and we look forward to seeing students' creative costumes.
 

Hispanic Heritage Month

Hispanic Heritage Month runs from September 15-October 15.
 
It is a time to recognize the contributions and influence of Hispanic Americans to the history, culture and achievements of the United States. There will be a special acknowledgement of the month during the weekly WTBS student broadcast on Wednesday and Chef Michael will be preparing some traditional Hispanic foods on Friday, October 13. Our family breakfast will include Huevo a la Mexicana (eggs) and sweet bread, and nachos will be served for lunch.
 
The dining hall will also have posters, music and decorations to mark the occasion. 

Early Dismissal

If your student needs to leave school early, please notify Mrs. Jackson as early in the day as possible. If you call after 2:30 p.m., she may not receive your message as she is busy coordinating multiple dismissals and getting students on the afternoon bus.

Reserved Parking Spaces

The reserved parking spaces in our lot are for admissions visitors or the spots were purchased by families during the auction. These spaces are reserved at all times, even during non-school hours. Please do not park in these spaces. If you are running in to drop a student off or pick up for an appointment, you may pull up in front of the columns.
 

New Bookstore Merch!

The bookstore has new long-sleeve "choose kind" t-shirts for $30 in youth and adult sizes. The store will soon have new hoodies and sweatshirt blankets. The bookstore will be open on Friday, October 13 during the family breakfast.
 
The store has also partnered with a new vendor for some fun items like bows, belts, neck hankies for dogs and coffee mugs. You can shop online here for these items and have them shipped to the school or to your home address. These items will be available through this Wednesday, October 11.
 

Used Uniform Sales for the Year

Mark your calendar for these dates. We are in need of outerwear donations like sweatshirts, sweaters, etc. 
November 6, 2:30 - 4 p.m. 
December 4, 2:30 - 4 p.m.
February 5, 2:30 - 4 p.m.
March 4, 2:30 - 4 p.m. 
May 2, 5 - 7:30 p.m. (Blowout sale during open house) 
 

Donate to the Auction

The Bright School auction is coming soon! It will be open for bidding online October 25 through November 1. The auction is online only, so feel free to bid in the comfort of your own home, even in your pajamas! Students will wear their pajamas to school on the final day of the auction.
 
We are already collecting auction items, so if you have anything to donate, please email Kim Brown
 

Fall Art Workshops

Join Mrs. Davis for two fall-themed ceramic workshops focusing on hand-building techniques. In our October workshop students will create spooky jack-o-lantern slab votives. During our November workshop students will create pinch pot pumpkins. Each workshop is two weeks. Week one will center around hand-building techniques, week two will be all about glazing techniques and application. Cost is $45.00 for each monthly workshop.

Basketball Signups

Second through fifth graders may sign up for afternoon basketball.
 
Registration for 2nd through 4th grade boys and girls is through Campbrain and then TryKidz. There is a $25 fee that should be paid to Bright at this link, then you register with TryKidz at this linkYou must list Bright School in your registration in order to be placed on a Bright team. 
 
Registration for 5th grade boys and girls will be at this Campbrain link. The fee is $150.
This group will play in the ISC league. The schedule of games can be found at this link and listed below are practice times.
Boys practice Mondays 3-4:30 p.m.
Girls practice Wednesdays 3-4:30 p.m.

Fifth Grade Retreat

Fifth graders enjoyed a two-day retreat at Camp Lookout before Fall Break. They were able to try activities like a ropes course, a zip line, archery and canoeing.
