Hurricane Book Drive

Several students and families have helped organize our school's response to the recent hurricanes. We are collecting new or gently-used books to send to children in Houston. Through Destinee's Gift, a non-profit started by the parents of kindergartner Destinee Harris, books collected at the school will be shipped to temporary schools in Houston and then donated to children to replace books ruined in the flooding. Fourth graders, including Jim Bradshaw, Hadley Golden, Soleigh Kueter, Arwyn LaRock, Petra Lund and Ella Claire Stalvey are helping spread the word and collecting books from each classroom daily until the end of the drive on September 27. Read more about the book drive on our blog. So many families have contacted the school with ideas and offers of help, and we believe our students of all ages will be able to grasp what it means to not have books at home. Thank you!

Charleston Wrap Time

Sell More Wrap! That's what the Chik-fil-a cows say to students who want their classes to win special prizes for selling the most Charleston Wrap. Look for a packet of information about Charleston Wrap in your child's backpack today. This is the Parents' Association's largest fundraiser of the year. Follow the directions on the packet to register your student for online orders. The deadline to submit all orders is 3 p.m. on October 2. Any orders submitted after this deadline will still be processed but not counted toward the class total. Families may choose to make a donation of any amount in lieu of selling Charleston Wrap to go toward the class total.

Parent Portal Open to Schedule Conferences

The Parent Portal is now open to schedule parent-teacher conferences on September 28 and 29. September 28 is a half day with dismissal at 11:30 a.m. for students. There is no school on September 29. Click this link to access the Parent Portal. To schedule a conference, select "Student Profile" along the top menu. This will take you to a new page. Along the left side menu you will see Teacher Conferences. Once you select this, you will see the options for conference times. If you have multiple children enrolled at Bright School, in the top right corner you will toggle between your children's names to schedule a time for each of their teachers.

Bright Afternoons on Parent Conference Days

Bright Afternoons will be offering extra days during Parent Conferences September 28 and 29. Your child may stay after the 11:30 a.m. dismissal on September 28 and/or stay all day on September 29. Reserve your child's spot by Wednesday, September 27. Download this form and email it to Mary Bosshardt or bring it to the office. Parents attending conferences may drop off children in Bright Afternoons during the conference time at no charge.

Feed Your Child a Good Breakfast

Did you know that, in general, kids who eat breakfast have more energy, do better in school, and eat healthier throughout the day? Mornings are busy times. Here are some ideas to help fuel your kids for school:

1) Have a Keurig? Fill a mug with instant oatmeal instead of coffee. With an empty k-cup spot, select the tea cup setting (4oz.) to brew the perfect amount of hot water for oatmeal. Top with fresh fruit.

2) Try a variation of avocado toast. The avocado is a naturally nutrient-dense food and contain nearly 20 vitamins and minerals and is loaded with fiber.. Simply toast a piece of bread and spread it with avocado.  Season with salt and pepper. Top it off with an egg, some spinach and sunflower seeds.

3) Kick up the protein power of a waffle with some peanut butter and potassium-rich banana or brain-food blueberries.

Middle School Admissions Meeting

Fifth grade parents are invited to an informational session to review and learn more about the middle school admissions process. Parents may choose to attend at 8:15 a.m. in the library or 5 p.m. in the KEC boardroom on Thursday, September 21. In the meeting, we will answer questions and review the steps Bright School will complete for your family and upcoming dates and deadlines. You also will receive important forms you need to return. We are here to help you have a successful journey through the admissions process. Please email Renee' Kropff at [email protected] if you are not able to attend either time.

Garden Work Day on October 4

It is once again time to get our hands dirty in the early childhood gardens! Our annual Fall Gardening Day is scheduled for Wednesday, October 4 from 5:30 to 6:30 p.m. We will offer water and pizza for everyone that evening, but please make sure to RSVP by the day before to ensure that there will be enough to feed all of our amazing volunteers. Feel free to bring gardening tools and gloves to the party, and make sure to dress to get dirty! Email Bill Greene to RSVP and if you have questions. We hope to see you and your family there!

Reserve Football Tickets by October 1

The Bright Parent Social Committee invites you to join Mr. Morgan for a day of NFL fun!
