January 3, 2018

From Head of School O.J. Morgan

As we all return to school, a little bit older and wiser, I want to express my hope that this new year brings blessings in abundance for everyone. Before we know it, the cold weather will gradually subside and the freshness of spring will soon signal new life and growth. And hope.

This annual change, of course, mirrors the change and growth happening so subtly in the lives of our children, which is important for us to remember. Before we know it, they'll be blossoming into young adults, so let's make sure we enjoy these wonderful years of childhood with them. In the meantime, we can be thankful that Bright School offers the fertile ground in which they can mature and grow in such beautiful ways.

Happy New Year to everyone!

Farewell to Mrs. Smith

As we announced before the break, school counselor Nicole Smith is leaving Bright and Chattanooga and moving with her family to Texas. Her last day is Friday, January 12. Parents and students are invited to a reception on that day at 3:30 p.m. in the library. Please come by to wish her well.

Plans are being made to have an interim counselor in place for the remainder of the school year. More information will be coming soon.

Winter/Spring After School Classes

The list of after school classes beginning in January are now available on the Bright Afternoons webpage. Registration begins tomorrow and ends on January 10. Contact Mary Bosshardt for questions.

Help with Admissions

How can Bright parents help with admissions? Future families love to ask parents questions and hear informally from you about your family's experience at Bright. Would you like to volunteer to help follow up with families who visit Bright? We are seeking parents of any grade child who are interested in helping and sharing your Bright experience with others. Please email [email protected] to participate. An informational meeting will be held later in January.

Sunshine Math for January

Sunshine Math sheets for January are available on the website. Completed sheets are due by the end of the month. Sunshine Math is for grades K-5.

Cold Weather Reminders

Remember students go outside for recess and other activities even during cold temperatures. Please make sure they are dressed appropriately for the weather.

Students may wear any coat or jacket outside before and after school and during recess. If your child is cold in the classroom, he or she may wear Bright sweatshirts, jackets or sweaters with the school logo or those bought in the bookstore. Plain navy, white and evergreen cardigan sweaters are fine in classrooms. For uniform policies, visit the website.

The next Bright T-Shirt Day is January 12.
