The Challenge is On!

The faculty and fifth graders are playing for bragging rights on Friday afternoon in their annual basketball battle. Students will want to get close to the action, so we're partnering again with the Chattanooga Area Food Bank to offer a challenge to get the best seats in the gym.

This Friday, we are asking all children to bring bags of plain dry rice to donate to the food bank. The grade that brings the most rice, based on weight, will get front row seats at the game. A student winner will be declared from each grade based on weight of rice donated, and those winners will get to participate in a special contest during the game. Please do not bring rice before Friday.

You may donate any size of dry bag of rice. For instance, you can purchase small bags all the way up to bigger sizes like 25 and 50 pounds. Larger sizes can be found at stores such as Asian Food and Gifts of Chattanooga at 3639 Hixson Pike. Remember to label your child's contribution. All grades are included in the contest. JPK and PK students in Bright Afternoons will be able to attend the game.

To start thinking about rice, here's a math problem from Mathnasium, a school sponsor:

When requesting his reward, a wise man told his king that he would like just one grain of rice on the first square of a chess board, double that number of grains of rice on the second square, double again in the third, and so forth. Only after the king granted the request did his servants discover that it would cost the kingdom 18 quintillion grains of rice. Question: If you wrote out the number of grains on the 64th tile, what digit would be in the ones place? The student who brings in the first correct answer to Ms. Janie will receive a credit for 20 pounds of rice to go toward his or her total.

Time for Re-enrollment

Families with children in grades K-4 are automatically enrolled for next school year unless you inform us your child is not returning. Please do so by January 31 to Director of Admissions Brooke Moore.

Families with children in JPK and PK need to fill out and return contracts by the same deadline.

If you would like to apply for tuition grants (financial aid), now is the time to get started. The first step in the process needs to be completed by February 2. Go to our tuition grants webpage for more information.
