1961

Dr. Martha McCravey was named a GPS Notable Alumna at this year’s Alumnae Weekend. McCravey is a pediatrician in Tacoma, Washington. She was the first board-certified pediatric intensivist hired when the PICU was organized at MultiCare Mary Bridge Children’s Hospital in the 1980s.

2000

Out of 2,700 applicants, Alexandra Ingram was selected out of the class of 31 post graduate interns at the NCAA national office in Indianapolis. She finished her Ph.D. coursework in the spring at the University of Tennessee, Knoxville, where she has been working at the Thornton Athletics Student Life Center.

2006

Matthew Harmon Jones received his master’s in accounting degree from Rhodes College in May. This fall, he will begin his career with a regional accounting firm in Memphis.

2007

Katherine Cherry was named a GPS Notable Alumna at Alumnae Weekend this spring. She is manager of international government relations and public affairs at the Coca-Cola Company and oversees the company’s community investments and social enterprise efforts and leads the company’s partnership with the World Economic Forum’s Global Shapers Community.

2008

Caroline Spann studied abroad in Florence, Italy, last fall through Harding University and was named to the dean’s list in spring 2017

2009

Michael Brown served as a summer intern for Sen. Bob Corker in his D.C. office.

2010

Sam Beard was a member of the 2016-17 homecoming court at Baylor

Katie Brandao, a senior at GPS, received the Morehead-Cain Scholarship to attend the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. The four-year scholarship pays all expenses for the undergraduate years. She also won the Daughters of the American Revolution Award.

A.J. Johnson, a Baylor senior, was selected to the Baylor Round Table and elected its president.

Tia Kemp, the senior class president at GPS, won the Roberta Moore Award.

Silvey McGregor, a senior at GPS, won the Greene-Hanlin Awards in the arts.

Kate McVay, a senior at GPS, won the Peggy Thomas 100% Award in athletics.

Shalin Naik finished his high school rowing career at McCallie as the coxswain with a silver medal in the senior four division at the Scholastic Rowing Association of America national championships in New Jersey.

Ali Shafi won the Forensics Award at McCallie.

James Shaughnessy was the winner of the Fine Arts Award at Baylor.

Mimi Vance, who served as president of the Partnerships in the Community organization at GPS, received the Betsy Chisolm Silberman Award at GPS and was a member of the GPS May Court.

Phoebe Warren, who served as Honor Council president as a senior at GPS, received the prestigious Founders Award and John Locke History Award for Excellence and was a National Merit semifinalist and the class salutatorian.

2011

Pierson Brown, a GPS junior, was chosen as a delegate for the Georgia EMC 2017 Washington Youth Tour and invited to participate in 2017 Tennessee Girls' State. She was elected as a senior representative in the Partnerships in the Community organization at GPS.

Andrew Cook, Sultan Humayun, Mac Hunt, Allen Liu, Matthew Magill, Ahmad Nisar, Jackson Shell and Charlie Winchester were inducted into the National Honor Society at McCallie.

Matthew Davis and Grace McKenney were named recipients of the Jumonville Awards, given to the best all-around male and female juniors as determined by a vote of upper school students at Baylor. Both were also selected to travel to Washington, D.C., this summer on the David M. Abshire Civic Leadership trip, an intensive eight-day experiential course of study on national leadership, ethics, honor, and service, and are recipients of the Joe Key Award, a trip honoring rising seniors with admirable character whose selfless efforts might otherwise go unrecognized by the school or by their peers. Davis was named chair of the Model United Nations Introductory Committee for the Southeastern High School Model U.N. this fall. He also served on the Baylor Honor Council this past year. McKenney was among 10 Baylor students who traveled to Jamaica for the 20th annual community service trip for an immersive experience among some of the country's poorest citizens. In addition to their service work, the students delivered ten large duffle bags stuffed with school supplies. She also served on the Student Leadership Board this past year.

Hollis Gaffney, a GPS junior, won the Palmer Griffin Award, which is named for the GPS student and 2001 Bright graduate who died in 2007. Gaffney also was elected to serve on the Student Council as a senior.

Margaret Lim, a GPS junior, received the school’s Duffy-Jarnagin Scholarship at the beginning of last school year. Award criteria state that the girl “should be highly respected by her class” and have qualities of integrity and loyalty. Scholarship and service to the school also play a part in the award decision. She also was elected to the Honor Council for her senior year.

Allen Liu received the Johnson Spanish Award and the Dr. T.E.P. Woods Award for Academic Excellence as a junior at McCallie. Liu and Andrew Cook were inducted into the senior leadership organization Keo-Kio.

Andrew Butt and Teddy Lepcio were among nine rising seniors at Baylor selected for the annual David M. Abshire Civic Leadership trip to Washington, D.C. In addition, Butt won the AP Chinese Award, and Lepcio won the Latin Award. Lepcio was elected last fall to the Student Leadership Board.

Meher Memon, a GPS junior, was elected to serve on the Student Council as a senior.

2012

Landie McBrayer was a member of Baylor’s state championship tennis team.

Kate Padilla and Maddie Reap were selected to participate in Baylor’s global exchange program. Padilla will attend Durban Girls School in Durban, South Africa, while Reap attends Colegio San Fernando in Aviles, Spain. During their junior years, they will host students from the same schools.

Charlotte Vance was elected to serve on the Class Leadership Council as a junior at GPS.

2013

Elizabeth Rowe and Sana Nisar were among students representing GPS in the Southeast Tennessee Region National History Day 2017 contest. Rowe was in a group that won first place in a senior group website called “Simon Bolivar Liberating South American Countries,” and Nisar was in a group that won first place for the documentary on “American Women’s Dress Reform, 1850-1920.”

2014

Several young alumni at Baylor participated in A Novel Idea and wrote their own novels that were published. They presented and signed their books at Barnes and Noble in December. Hunter McVay was elected to serve on the GPS Student Council.

Ethan Nunes, Paige Ryan, Nick Skonberg and Sophie Workinger ’13 were named to the Eighth Grade Literary Society at Baylor.

2015

Abby Grace Kueter was elected to serve on the Class Leadership Council as an eighth grader at GPS.

2016

Meghan Boehm, a sixth grader at GPS, won the Joan Haley Frierson Award and was elected to the Honor Council for the seventh grade.

Caroline Clark and Kate McVay were elected to serve on the Class Leadership Council for the seventh grade at GPS.

Births

Maxwell Gray Wagner, born on June 30, 2017, son of David Wagner ’99 and wife, Jennifer. He is the grandson of retired PK teacher Kathi Wagner.

Ella James Daughtery, born on May 9, 2017, daughter of Anna Connell Daugherty ’00 and husband, Ben. She is the granddaughter of P.E. teacher Jan Connell.

Weddings

Elizabeth Carriger ’90 married Peter Erwin on June 24, 2017 at St. Paul’s Episcopal Church in Chattanooga. They live in Washington, D.C.

Kyle Alton Bianco ’01 married Jessica Marie Rogers on March 25, 2017, at Patten Chapel in Chattanooga. Among the wedding party were Charlie Felts ’00, Evan Sharber ’01 and Gabrielle Sobel ’01. The couple resides in north Chattanooga. Kyle is a project manager in the nuclear projects division at TVA, and Jessica is a veterinarian for Dalton Animal Care in Dalton, Georgia.
